WPGC Play Audio Button Triangle Stations Custom (Montage) :28

Commercial Recording Corporation was founded by Tom Merriman in 1955, over a decade before launcing TM in 1967. CRC's third package in 1957 was a custom for the Triangle stations including WFIL in Philadelphia. WPGC used only a couple of cuts from it in 1959. Noticeably absent were the WPGC calls, suggesting they may have been lifted illegally!

The next package from CRC in 1957 was also a custom package for KOCY in Oklahoma City. WPGC used it extensively in 1959 by which time the increase in power to 10,000 watts had been implemented, allowing WPGC to be heard around Greater Washington for the first time.

WPGC Play Audio Button On The Go Radio / Wonderful (Montage) :24

1958 saw a custom package for the RKO stations with, 'On the Go Radio / Wonderful'. As before, the cuts WPGC used in 1959 did not contain call letters and most likely were 'borrowed' from the demo!

WPGC Play Audio Button Mighty One (Montage) :10

'Mighty One' for WDGY in St. Paul was aptly named in 1959 as WPGC only used a single cut from it, again with no call letters. Since WPGC had in fact legitmately ordered Series #4 from CRC, perhaps they felt they were entitled to a few extra goodies free of charge!

WPGC Play Audio Button Tune Toppers (Montage) 1:22

Stations were eager to add credibility by having stars of the day sing custom versions of their current hits with their call letters. Few artists however had the time to do so.

CRC and other jingle companies filled the gap by providing sound-a-likes impersonating those artists, joyously belting out clear-cut mentions for WPGC and others.

The first of this series was released in 1959 with the follow-up coming out in 1961. Both of the cuts below are from the second set.

CRC ceased production in 1968 following the departure of Tom Merriman the year before.
