'Good Guy' 'Marvelous Marv' Brooks arrived at WPGC in 1964 for afternoons from another 1580, that of WPAC in Patchogue, Long Island, New York. By the time of this tape, Marv had been promoted to Morning News with Harv Moore and doubled as the station's (mostly) off-air Production Director other than one weekend shift.

In this particular case, his Saturday shift coincided with New Years Eve in the Nation's Capital. Just a week after doing Christmas Eve duty, Marv is heard here noticeably higher in energy compared to a week before.

Hours later, the annual Top 100 of the Year Countdown would begin on WPGC. Listen for a Promo touting the special done by WPGC Program Director, 'Cousin' Duffy and night guy, Bob Raleigh (Bill Miller, #5 of 6 to use that name at the station) beginning at 7:15AM (Sign-On time of the AM in January).

And speaking of Promos, don't miss the ubiquitous GM, Bob Howard (best known as, 'Mr. Sound Off') in yet another of his many on-air personas, this time as, 'Captain Good Guy'. His performance ('Helloooooo there boys and girls....) is genuinely funny, though it may not have been intended to be that way.

Jingles in use at the time were from a package known as, 'Funtastic' from Spot Productions in Dallas. With only minutes to go before the New Year, Marv wishes everyone the best and then promptly signs off the station at the stroke of midnight (WPGC-FM would not go 24 hours until August, 1968).
