the unofficial tribute site of the Enormous
95 & the Equally Awesome 1580, Washington's
legendary WPGC - AM & FM.
These pages will focus on the station's glory years as a TOP 40 blowtorch,
covering the period from the late '50's through the early '80's.
Over a year in the making, this site should be on-line in 2002.

Tribute Site to celebrate July 4th Weekend with
Internet Stream of Vintage Airchecks from the '60's & '70's
The WPGC Tribute Site is pleased to announce it will be streaming
excerpts from the station's special year-end countdown shows, covering
select years between 1967 - 1980 beginning at 12:01 AM EDT on Thursday,
July 1st and continuing through midnight on Sunday, July 7th.
The WPGC Tribute Site is not affiliated in any way with WPGC
Radio or Infinity Broadcasting today, and is devoted to the station's
glory years as one of America's most prominent Top 40 stations during
the '60's & '70's.
Still under development at press time, the site will, in addition
to vintage airchecks, eventually include station jingles, commercials,
promos, sweepers, listener 'Sound-Offs', newscasts and on air contesting.
Additionally, printed materials including weekly playlists,
newspaper articles, sales kits and guest essays from station alumni
will appear on the non-profit site established for educational &
research purposes.
To hear the year-end countdown shows, internet listeners can
access the streamed audio by opening their Windows Media Player,
clicking on FILE>OPEN
URL and entering : mms://largelee.dnsalias.net
in the address box that appears as seen below.

We are very sorry to report the untimely
passing of former WPGC General Manager Charles Giddens on Sept.
12th, 2001. From 'Radio & Records':

Charles Giddens Dies
Giddens,
who co-founded and was Managing Director of Media Venture Partners,
died yesterday morning in a Naples, FL hospital after suffering
a brain hemorrhage on Monday. He was 57. Giddens, who lived in Naples,
spent more than 30 years in broadcasting. He was a station owner
and Group VP of Marriott’s First Media in Greenbelt, MD before Media
Venture Partners was formed in Washington, D.C. in 1987. In
lieu of flowers, Charles' widow, Joanne, and their daughters Cassandra
& Kelly have requested that donations be sent to the Garden
of Hope and Courage at Naples Community Hospital, P.O. Box 234,
Naples, FL 34106.

Giddens Scholarship Fund Formed
The fund was created in memory of the
Media Venture Partners co-founder, who died last week at age 57
of a brain aneurysm. Contributions can be made payable to the University
of Georgia Foundation, with "Charles Giddens Scholarship Fund" in
the memo line of your check, and mailed to the foundation (attn.:
Bill Herringdine) at 824 S. Milledge Ave., Athens, GA 30602. The
fund will be directed to the Grady College of Telecommunications
and Journalism, where it will provide a yearly scholarship to a
student attending the Univ. of GA & Grady College.
